In Need of an Altitude Adjustment

Going Places

Big things are happening. This past month has been one wild ride and it’s about to get a whole lot wilder. Many of you are now aware of this, but in case you haven’t heard yet, Mike and I are moving to Colorado in October! I know, crazy right?!?!

It happened a lot quicker than we expected. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified. I think it’s normal to be nervous. Afterall, Florida is all I’ve ever known. All of my family is right here, along with my friends, home and job. I’ve been asked why I want to leave all of that behind and my only answer for that is it’s not about what I’m leaving behind. Of course I don’t want to move away from my loved ones. It’s more about what else is out there that we’ll miss out on if we don’t go.

Florida is a great place. I know I talk a lot of crap about it but it really is beautiful. It’s just… not for us. Mike’s wanted to move to Colorado since he was a kid and I’ve been chomping at the bit to go back ever since we got home from our honeymoon.

We actually just spent last weekend out in Denver getting some things in order. Mike landed a new job about a month ago. He’s been working remote (from home) for them and will continue to do so until we move. He spent a few days in the office getting to know his coworkers. We also went apartment hunting. For the last few weeks I’ve been staring at apartmentlist.com for hours on end. I had saved some 60-odd apartments to my favorites. Mike made me narrow it down to my top 5 that we’d look at while we were out there. That was quite a struggle.

We had looked at 1 or 2 from my list by the time we were driving through Golden. We drove by one that wasn’t on the list and something just told us to go check it out. The location, price and timing was right and we had secured it by the end of the following day!

Golden, Colorado is a beautiful place in the foothills of the Rockies. It has a small-town charm but in only 20 minutes we can be in the heart of Denver. My plan right now is to find another training job. From what I’ve heard there are plenty of gyms out there so hopefully it won’t be a problem.

I’m most excited about the weather, changing seasons and the landscapes. Some of my friends say my spirit animal is a turtle because there’s nothing I’d rather do than lay in the sun, on a rock, in the middle of a flowing river. If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend doing so as it is heaven on earth! I know there are going to be challenges, like driving in the snow, but I know we’re making the right decision. I can feel it in my bones.

My last day at my current job will be September 29th. We’re able to get into our apartment anytime after October 1st. Mike will need to be out there somewhere between the 4th and the 9th for work, so our actual move date is still up in the air. Along with my nervousness is tremendous excitement. I’m absolutely thrilled to go on this adventure. I can’t wait to tell you guys more!

Don’t be afraid when things don’t go according to your plan.  God’s plan is the only one that matters. Just enjoy the ride!

Until next time…

I'm an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. I worked in a gym setting back in Florida for over 2 years, training one-on-one clients and leading group fitness classes. I absolutely loved it, but once we moved across the country to Colorado, I decided to take the opportunity to pursue a slightly different career! My obsession with exercise and love for writing collided, which is how I became a fitness lifestyle writer.
