Our New Life in Golden

By  |

*Burrr*

WOW. What a crazy few weeks it has been! As I type this, I’m sitting in our “finally unpacked” Golden, Colorado apartment! I’ve been here for 10 days now, Mike’s been here for 17. We arrived (My parents and I) last Monday, October 9th. It was snowing when we got here. SNOWING. It started once we entered New Mexico and continued all the way up through Colorado. I found myself wondering what I had gotten myself into and if I’d ever actually survive my first REAL Winter. The jury’s still out on that one, but it has gotten warmer since then.

Road trip

If you read my last post you may be asking yourself, New Mexico? Yeah, well, our original plan was to go North and then West but we decided to go West and then North. We spent a night in Macon, Little Rock and then Amarillo before making our way to Golden. It was a long drive but it was BEAUTIFUL.

38 Stairs

My brother flew in last Tuesday to help unpack the POD, but once we realized we were in fact on the third floor and not the second as we were originally promised, we decided to hire a few guys to help. I felt SO bad for them, but it was well worth the money. Mike and I lived in shambles last week since my family was in town and I had SO many things that I wanted them to see! I Mike had to work so he wasn’t able to join us for most of it.

Adventure

We went to Red Rocks, Boulder, Estes Park where the Stanley hotel is, the Rocky Mountain National Park because obviously, and the Denver Zoo on Friday! On Friday night we went to Denver’s 13th Floor haunted house which was awesome! Definitely recommend. On Saturday, Mike and I drove over to the house my parent’s had rented in Downtown Golden. We spent some time walking the river before going over to the beer tasting and chili cook off in the park! It was a blast.

Bittersweet

On Sunday morning we took them to the airport. Saying goodbye was hard, but hopefully it was just until Thanksgiving. Still trying to figure that one out… Sunday afternoon we drove out to Copper to visit Mike’s mom who was out for the weekend with her friends. It was good to see her as well as another part of Colorado!

The Hard Part

Once Monday came around, I buckled down and started getting this place in order. It took me a few days but I finally got it all taken care of! I’ve started looking around at potential jobs. So far I haven’t applied to any, I’m just trying to figure out which direction I want to go.

ALL The Feels

As far as how I’m feeling… I’m excited. It’s a beautiful place that we’ve chosen to start the next chapter of our lives in. There are so many things to see and do. I’m still trying to get my bearings, which makes me pretty anxious. I mean, we’re literally like starting over. A new town, a new apartment, no friends or family… it’s been a little overwhelming. I’m just trying to stay positive, which hasn’t been too difficult. We still feel that it was the right thing, moving out here. We were very aware that it would be hard at first and seeing as how I’ve managed to avoid a full on panic attack so far, I’d say I’m doing pretty well.

A Welcomed Distraction

Our friends are coming to visit this weekend! It will be nice to have some familiarity around (plus Scout misses them!) They want to move to Colorado soon, also. We’re going to do our best to sell them on moving to Golden. We’ll see how that goes LOL.

Until next time…

I'm an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. I worked in a gym setting back in Florida for over 2 years, training one-on-one clients and leading group fitness classes. I absolutely loved it, but once we moved across the country to Colorado, I decided to take the opportunity to pursue a slightly different career! My obsession with exercise and love for writing collided, which is how I became a fitness lifestyle writer.
