Benefits of Personal Training

By  |

In the past, we’ve discussed the importance of living a healthy life. That’s nothing new to any of you. We’ve talked about the joys (and struggles) of working out, eating properly and just getting healthy, in general

Are you one of those people that is ready to get fit but don’t know where to start? Maybe you’ve gotten started but don’t know where to go from here? If this sounds familiar, may I recommend hiring a personal trainer?!

I’m convinced that my career is the best career that anyone could ever have. I get to wake up every morning and help people change their lives. Now that I’ve been doing this more than a year, I’ve had the opportunity to see some REAL, AWESOME transformations. It even goes beyond physical changes for some of them and into mental/emotional changes. There’s nothing more incredible than seeing a shy, self conscious girl turn into a confident, outgoing woman. I’ve also witnessed an apprehensive man that hated the gym become completely addicted (in the best way). I’ve seen a woman who was the “Queen-of-can’t” turn into to the woman that can do absolutely anything! I’ve seen strength increase dramatically and fat melt away revealing completely new people. There are many different reasons why these people hired me, so here are the TOP 5 reasons to hire a personal trainer:

  1. Education- Have you ever stepped foot into a gym? For many people, it can be an extremely intimidating step. I completely understand. It’s not a fun feeling to not have any idea what to do or where to begin. That’s why I highly recommend using a trainer for at least the first 3 months. We can show you how things work, get you going on a program and help you gain confidence to go off on your own! Many trainers will also introduce you to people that are on the same path as you. When you know people, you’ll be a lot more comfortable which will make it way more likely that you’ll stay long term!
  1. Motivation- Okay, so you already belong to a gym. You know how everything works, but maybe you’re lacking that enthusiasm that you originally started with. I can help you with that. Trainers can be great motivators. When you have someone egging you on, you’re way more likely to succeed! You got this! “Ain’t nothin’ but a peanut!”
  1. Consistency and Accountability- You’d be AMAZED (or maybe not) how many of my clients at one point or another have said, “Erin, if I didn’t have this appointment with you today, I would NOT have made it in.” This statement is usually followed by something like, “But I’m so glad I did!” I don’t have exact numbers or percentages, but through my experience I know for a fact that having an appointment with a trainer will keep you consistent. It’s also important to have an accountability partner. Making excuses to yourself is a lot easier than making excuses to your trainer!
  1. Challenge- When you workout on your own, you tend to get lazy. I also know this from personal experience… trust me. “Trainer needs a trainer! Someone PUHlease kick my butt!” It’s easy to fall into this routine of doing the same workouts day in and day out. Our bodies are so incredibly adaptable to the stresses that we place on them, it’s crucial that we switch it up! A good indicator is if you stop getting sore. You ALWAYS want to feel your workout. Your trainer will be able to keep switching things up and throwing new things at you so that you never get bored! When you have fun, you’ll keep coming back! This leads me to the final reason on our top 5 list of reasons to hire a personal trainer.
  1. RESULTS- When you combine all of these things together, you WILL get results. Get educated on your workouts. Don’t just go through the motions. Know WHY you are doing this exercise or that exercise. ASK questions! I love questions! Hiring a trainer that can motivate you even when you don’t feel like working out can make a world of difference! You never regret a workout! Consistency, like with anything else, is key. If you don’t stay consistent, you won’t see results. Accountability partners keep you consistent. Your trainer will challenge you to work harder than you would have had you been working out on your own.

Being nervous is completely normal. I think a lot of people think that all trainers are like Jillian Michaels was on The Biggest Loser. WE’RE NOT!!! I didn’t choose the scream in your face route, unless of course that’s what you ask of me. With most of my clients, I’ve taken on the smiling motivator role. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be pushy, but I’m not mean. It’s a tough road, and no one can do it for you, but there are people here to help you along. You don’t have to do this alone! If you live in the Tampa, Florida area, shoot me an email! I’d love to help you reach your goals!

Until next time…

I'm an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. I worked in a gym setting back in Florida for over 2 years, training one-on-one clients and leading group fitness classes. I absolutely loved it, but once we moved across the country to Colorado, I decided to take the opportunity to pursue a slightly different career! My obsession with exercise and love for writing collided, which is how I became a fitness lifestyle writer.
