Your Most Valuable Possession

By  |

Take a minute to think about the most important thing that you own… Something material probably comes to mind. Is it your car? Your home? A piece of jewelry? Your phone or computer? Whatever it is, I’m sure you take good care of it and probably use it often. All of those things have one thing in common though; they can all be replaced. Here’s a thought… Did you ever consider your body? Think about it, it’s the only one that you will ever have. If you don’t have your health, will anything else even matter?

Mike had been telling me about this video he watched where this guy broke down why our body should be our most valuable possession. (I wish I knew his name, but I couldn’t find it– does anyone know?) Anyway, I think he makes a really good point.

I come face to face with people, almost daily, that are just getting into a health and fitness routine. This is the body they’ve had, well, their ENTIRE lives. What is it now, that finally made them want to start taking care of it? Usually, it’s something negative that got them to take action. They may have developed a health issue, are tired of feeling sluggish or just simply don’t want to be overweight anymore. How about we try motivating ourselves by positive thoughts this time?

The good news is that it’s not too late to start taking care of yourself. I’m not trying to tell you that it will be easy to change your lifestyle to get healthy, but I will tell you it will definitely be worth it. If you thought about your car as your prized possession, consider all of the work you put into it. You clean it, maintain it routinely, maybe you’ve made some upgrades and are most likely pretty proud of it. Same could be said about your house, jewelry or any other thing you may have thought of.  My point is, when we think about the most important thing to us, we acknowledge that we put in effort. Why don’t most of us give that same effort to what should really be everyone’s most valuable possession?

It’s time to make your health priority number one. You can start by making small changes. Eat healthier food. Drink more water. Sleep more. Get active! That doesn’t have to mean going to the gym, that can mean walking, swimming, kayaking, dancing.. Anything! You could also join the gym, and come workout with me! Little changes can make a big difference. Don’t think about it as a chore. Get out of your head, I know that it sounds much more difficult in there than it actually is when you physically ‘get to work’. Eating better, staying hydrated, getting enough rest and MOVING will make you feel SO good! Not to mention, you’ll be able to enjoy your other prized possessions more, and for longer! The human body is SO cool. It can do incredible things. Go find out for yourself!

Until next time…

I'm an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. I worked in a gym setting back in Florida for over 2 years, training one-on-one clients and leading group fitness classes. I absolutely loved it, but once we moved across the country to Colorado, I decided to take the opportunity to pursue a slightly different career! My obsession with exercise and love for writing collided, which is how I became a fitness lifestyle writer.

Very true Erin….I’ll bet the first thing 75% of people thought of was their car. I almost feel guilty sitting down reading this 🙂
    Great Job!!
