Time Flies…

By  |

It’s been 4 months, 4 MONTHS, since I’ve written a blog post. I can’t even believe how fast time is passing. So much has happened in the past 4 months. I had to reread my last post just to remember where I had left off.

My life is changing. I mean, I know I’ve been an “adult” for almost 8 years (I’m 3 months shy of 26… UGH) but the past few months have been getting real. I know most people my age are already living on their own, and have been for quite some time, but honestly I’ve never felt the absolute NEED to get out of my parents home. If I’m being completely honest, it still makes me a little bit sad that the end is nearing. I love spending time with them and I’m trying to cherish all of the time I have left here. I’m not embarrassed about still living at home, I’m actually grateful that I’ve been blessed with the option to stay here and save my money. After we got engaged last September, our plan was to find a place immediately. Through discussion and a lot of thought, we decided it would be best to stay at home for one more year and save as much as we could.  Now, that year has come and gone. Mike and I are getting married in less than 2 months. We’ll have our apartment in a matter of weeks. We’ve been furniture shopping. I’m working full time at the gym. I’m getting excited about tupperware and casserole dishes. If that doesn’t make my adulthood official, then I don’t know what does. I’m not complaining. It’s been a blast watching my life finally come together. There was a time not too long ago that I didn’t know which way was up. I feel like I’ve come so far.

Work life is good. I’ve finally found a balance that’s working for me. I’ve turned into quite the morning person. Don’t talk to me after 2 pm though, I’m useless. LOL. I’ve officially been a personal trainer for 1 year. I started on September 1, 2015. NASM taught me a lot, but the hands on experience has taught me so much more. I’ve learned not just a whole bunch of new exercises, but I’ve also gained a tremendous amount of people skills. If I were to ever go back to the B B Dubs (which HA let’s be real, I NEVER will) but if I did, I could sell the heck out of that body lotion and hand soap. I started to develop a clientele with issues like coming back from injuries and post surgery rehab needs. In order to give them the help they needed, I decided to do my continuing education for my corrective exercise specialization. It’s a work in progress, but a few of the things I’ve learned have already helped me. My main goal for the 2nd year of training is to build a clientele more geared towards strength training. Afterall, that’s the reason I got into training in the first place.

Wedding planning is moving right along. We’re down to 50-something days. All the main things are done. I had my first dress fitting back in early August. It went on, it was tight as heck in the hips, but it went on lol. The seamstress, in her thick Italian accent said, “You squat, don’t you?” I replied, “Well yeah, but not as much as I’d like.” She looked at me and shook her head, “No more squats, just treadmill.” I stared at her for a moment. “Sorry?” “You see this? Very tight in hips. No more squats, just treadmill.” I laughed. “Well, I don’t think that’s the squats, I think that’s probably from all the pizza.” She stared at me for a moment, ”…Just treadmill.” Needless to say, I haven’t touched the damn treadmill. Although I haven’t been able to really squat either, considering I have the knees of an 80 year old. My next fitting is in a few weeks. Here’s to hoping the dress still goes on. I’m still trying to absorb everything and enjoy the ride. Wedding planning has been a blast, I can’t wait to experience married life.

timeI was thinking back to the day I first heard the name Mike Miller… *CUE THE HARP*…I was sitting in 10th grade business math when one of my friends came in and quickly sat behind me, “Hey, did you see the new kid? Look out the window. That red Mustang, his brother gave him that.” Now if you knew me back then, you know how I was. Looking back, I’ll admit that I may have been a little strange. Mike still claims that I was gothic (I WASN”T), I was just shy. First impression, obviously a brat. I mean, come on, his brother gave him a mustang! (Real story: His brother had a mustang, got a different car and the mustang was just passed down to the next kid like many families do.) He gravitated towards the clique that I had no interest in. I think I knew of him for a year before we even spoke. We had a mutual friend, so we started seeing more of each other. I remember when I first realized I had a crush on him. We were at an away game for the football team. He left for a while to go do donuts in a muddy field in his mustang with a few of his buddies (I don’t think his parents ever knew that). I remember being devastated because the only reason I went to the game on that rainy Friday night in the first place was because he said he was going. (I don’t think I ever told him that.) Eventually he caught on and asked me to homecoming later that year. The rest is history. Here we are 9 years later and we’re getting married in less than 2 months. It’s funny how things happen. One moment can change the entire course of your life. I had no idea that I had just met my future husband, while sitting in Mr. Baumgartner’s high school business math class…

I have some things I’ve been thinking about doing some posts on, so stay tuned. Now that things are calming down, I should have some extra time to keep up on the blog. I PROMISE!

Until next time…

I'm an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. I worked in a gym setting back in Florida for over 2 years, training one-on-one clients and leading group fitness classes. I absolutely loved it, but once we moved across the country to Colorado, I decided to take the opportunity to pursue a slightly different career! My obsession with exercise and love for writing collided, which is how I became a fitness lifestyle writer.

Very nice Blog Erin. There were a few things in there that even I did not know.. You are a very good writer and I know that you and Mike are going to be very happy together. He is a great guy from an awesome family. I know that your wedding is going to be just perfect and we can’t wait for it to be here– to celebrate your marriage. Your Poppy and I are very proud of all your hard work and determination to get into your trainor position- in what appears to be a very nicely run gym- that as your grandmother and grandfather have already joined– and are enjoying our workouts. We love you both very much.
